Salon interior design Dubai: what a fit-out really involves

October 28, 2026 · 6 min readSalon interior design Dubai: what a fit-out really involves

A salon interior design project in Dubai is decided by three things before anyone picks a finish: how many stations the unit can hold, where the water can go, and which approvals you can actually get signed. Those three set your revenue for years. The tiles come later.

Layout mistakes that cost you chairs

Owners usually arrive with a mood board. The first drawing worth making is the chair count, because everything else is a consequence of it.

Styling stations need a mirror run with enough room behind the chair for a client to step back and for a stylist to pass with a trolley. Squeeze the run and you gain a station on paper, then lose it in service because nobody can work in that gap. A continuous mirror wall reads wider and lets stations share power and lighting circuits, but it locks the layout, so fix the count before the glass goes up.

Wash units are the expensive part. Backwash plumbing has to reach an existing drain with fall, and in most Dubai units the slab or the screed sets the limit. Move a wash unit far from the stack and you are raising the floor, or paying for a pumped waste that needs a service hatch and hums under a client's head. Find the drain positions before you fall in love with a plan.

Reception and retail zoning is the same argument in a different place. The walk from door to chair is your best selling space, so product shelving belongs on that path, not behind the receptionist. Keep the desk shallow so the room reads deeper than it is, and put the display where clients wait rather than where staff work.

Joinery that should come out of a workshop

The pieces that make a salon look expensive are all joinery: reception counter, styling stations, colour bar, shelving, staff lockers. Built on site, they get cut in a room full of dust, edged by hand and assembled around whatever the walls turned out to be. Built in a workshop, they arrive square, finished and ready to fix. We make ours in Jebel Ali, so a replacement panel or a late change does not need a new supplier and a new lead time. The custom joinery from our Jebel Ali workshop is the reason a beauty salon joinery package can be priced as pieces rather than as a vague allowance.

Two details matter more than the design. MDF and moisture do not get on, so around backwash units and the colour bar specify moisture-resistant board or ply with sealed edges, and seal the joint where the unit meets the floor, or the first year of wet towels will show. Then allow service access. Anything hiding a drain, valve or pump needs a removable panel, not a silicone bead.

Taupe base units, wood-grain uppers, marble-look top and under-cabinet lighting. The workshop standard we apply to reception counters and styling stations.

Lighting and MEP problems you meet in week two

Clients judge colour under your lights. One row of downlights over the mirror drops shadows under the eyes and makes a colour correction read wrong, which is a complaint about the salon, not about the lamp. Side lighting at the mirror plus a demister pad behind the glass is the setup that survives daily use, and both need power planned before tiling. The demister is a small heater behind the mirror. Retrofitting it means taking the mirror down.

Load is the other one. Dryers, steamers and heated towels pull real current, and a unit that ran a previous tenant is not automatically ready for them. Check the supply and phase early. Ventilation for treatment rooms and the colour bar needs a route to outside that the landlord will accept, and a colour bar without extraction smells like a colour bar, permanently.

Permits, NOC and sign-offs before joinery is cut

Nothing should be cut until three things are in hand: a trade licence activity that covers what you will actually do, the fit-out permit for the unit, and the landlord's NOC. Civil Defence comes into it for the shop front, materials and means of escape. This is where jobs stall, and a joinery order placed early is money sitting in a workshop while the file is still pending. It is also why we run salon work as part of our turnkey commercial fit-out in Dubai rather than as a design package handed off to a separate contractor.

Jebel Ali changes the sequence a little. Shells on the industrial side are more likely to be warehouse-type, with services entering where the last tenant left them, long duct runs and floor drains that do not suit a salon layout. In a retail unit the constraints come from neighbours, mall working hours and shop front rules. Either way the survey decides the plan.

We are extremely happy with Clare for the interior design work ! From planning to execution, everything was handled with great care, creativity, and professionalism.Thank you. Jeslin Mathew, 5/5

Our Google rating is 4.8 from 4 reviews, and what that client noticed is the right order of things: planning first, execution second.

Keeping the salon trading, and what handover must include

A refit does not have to close the business. Split the room, build a dust screen that reaches the ceiling, and sequence the work so the wet trades finish one half before the other half is touched. Off-hours work costs more in labour and saves more in bookings. Decide which one you are buying before the first skip arrives, and look at the salon and hospitality fit-out projects we have delivered to see how sections were kept open.

Handover is a list, not a feeling. Fill and drain every backwash and watch the fall. Run the extraction and check it pulls. Test the RCDs and earth leakage. Load the counters and wall shelves the way clients will. Check the mirror demisters after a shower has run. Open every panel that hides a pump before you sign anything.

Light wood-grain cabinetry, marble-patterned worktop and splashback, integrated appliance. Edge sealing and service access get decided at this stage.

To get a number for your unit, send photos of the space as it stands, a floor plan with dimensions if you have one, the location, the existing drain and power positions, and the trade licence activity you are applying for. WhatsApp 0508570938 is the fastest route: a plan photo with two lines drawn on it gets you a more useful answer than a paragraph of description. You can also book a salon fit-out site visit and we will measure the room and read the services on site.
