Walk-in wardrobe Dubai: what a made-to-measure build takes
A walk-in wardrobe in Dubai is a joinery commission, not a furniture order. The room gets measured after the walls are plastered, the internals get built around the clothes you actually own, and the people who draw it are the people who fit it. This is what the job involves from our side of the workshop door.
What a walk-in wardrobe gives you that fitted wardrobes cannot
Fitted wardrobes close off a wall. A walk-in wardrobe is a room you stand inside, so the layout stops being a run of doors and becomes hanging, drawers, shelves, a shoe wall, a mirror, sometimes an island.
In a Dubai villa it usually comes from a spare bedroom, a dressing area between the master bedroom and the bathroom, or a slice taken out of an oversized master suite. In an apartment the room rarely exists, so the job turns into converting a small second bedroom or reworking the master entry with a return run of tall units. Our test on the first visit is simple: if losing that floor area would annoy you daily, keep the room and run made-to-measure wardrobes along its walls instead.
The decisions taken before a single board is cut
The survey decides more than the moodboard.
Layout run: single, L or U, and which way the door swings. A U looks generous on paper and feels tight once two people are in the room.
Hanging and drawer split: we measure the longest garment in the house, an abaya or a full-length dress, and set the drop from that. Double hang for shirts and trousers, long hang for the rest.
Shoe wall: shelf spacing worked out from the tallest boots, not from a catalogue drawing, with a lip so the heels do not walk off the shelf.
The extras: an island only where there is walking clearance on both sides, a dressing table near daylight with the mirror out of the AC draft, LED profiles recessed into the shelf edges and an infrared sensor inside the door so nobody hunts for a handle in the dark.
Air conditioning is where Dubai walk-ins go wrong. Never box in a supply grille or the return air path; the bulkhead follows the duct, not the other way round, and any concealed run needs an access panel that opens without moving a drawer bank.
A fit-out in progress: ducts and ceiling framing go in before any joinery. A wardrobe bulkhead is drawn around that duct, never over the grille.
Why our Jebel Ali workshop shortens the chain
Carcasses, drawers and internal fitments are cut, edged and assembled in our own workshop in Jebel Ali, and that changes two things.
Dimensions come from the room as it is, plastered and tiled, not from a plan. Villa walls are rarely square, and a unit made to the drawing arrives with gaps and filler panels that were never quoted.
There is also one point of responsibility. Designer, joiner and fitter work for the same company, so when a wall is out of level nobody blames a cabinet supplier. Our Google rating sits at 4.8 from 4 reviews.

We build these rooms as part of our interior design and fit-out services, and finished examples sit in walk-in wardrobes and joinery work built in our workshop.
Materials and finishes that survive Dubai humidity
Ask what the carcass is made of before you ask about colour. MR-MDF is the sensible default for wardrobe interiors; plywood earns its place on tall spans and on walls backing onto a bathroom or an external facade. Seal every cut edge with edge banding on all four sides. Raw board edges are where summer humidity gets in and where swelling starts.
Finish is a separate decision. Laminate takes daily wear and hides fingerprints, lacquer gives flat colour but shows every knock, veneer brings grain and needs a stable substrate under it.
Hardware is where cheap quotes hide: soft-close runners rated for the loaded drawer, hinges sized for the door height, adjustable legs so the unit sits level on a screed floor. Get the brand name in writing.
Finished interior work in light wood and grey. The panel, edge-band and alignment standards are the same as the internals of a wardrobe.
The sequence, and what changes on install day
- Site survey. Every wall measured, ceiling height taken under the bulkhead, floor level checked, door and window positions noted.
- Design sign-off. Drawings showing every rail, drawer and shelf, a finish sample in your hand, lighting and sensor positions agreed.
- Workshop build in Jebel Ali.
- Delivery and installation.
- Snag walk together, doors and drawers adjusted, touch-ups done.
Install day is where villas and apartments part company. A villa is usually straightforward unless the room is upstairs, where the staircase or a balcony decides how a tall carcass travels. In an apartment the building management controls the day: fit-out permit, protected lift, permitted working hours, and the lift size, which decides whether a full-height unit arrives in one piece or is built in sections inside the room. We confirm all of that before the workshop starts, not on the morning of delivery.
What a fair quote should itemise
Two wardrobe quotes can only be compared line for line. Ask for the carcass material and thickness, the back panel, the full internal list with counts of rails, drawers and shelves, the runner and hinge brand, the finish by name and code, handles, lighting with driver and sensor, mirror or glass, delivery, installation, silicone and making good, and how the snag list gets closed after handover.
A number that comes in lower usually drops one of those: thinner board, standard runners instead of soft-close, or installation left out and handed to you. A written itemised quote is the only honest way to compare, and it is how we price a wardrobe made to measure in Dubai.
To price yours, photograph the room from each corner, note the ceiling height and the width of every wall, tell us the longest garment you need to hang, and say whether the property is a villa or an apartment in Jebel Ali. WhatsApp on 0508570938 is the fastest route for that, and you can also book a design consultation in Jebel Ali if you would rather walk the room with us first. The same number takes calls.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost in Dubai?
It depends on the carcass material, how many drawers and rails go inside, the finish, whether lighting is included, and how hard the room is to reach on install day. Ask for an itemised quote covering each of those, then compare line by line rather than on the total.
Can a walk-in wardrobe be fitted in an apartment?
Yes, if the building allows it. The real constraints are the fit-out permit, the service lift size and the permitted working hours, which together decide whether tall units arrive assembled or get built in sections inside the room.
Should I use MR-MDF or plywood for a wardrobe carcass?
MR-MDF suits most interiors and gives a clean, flat surface. Plywood is worth the upgrade on tall spans, on walls shared with a bathroom, and in rooms on an external facade where humidity swings are wider.
Do I need to empty the room before installation?
Yes. Clear it completely, including the floor where the unit will sit, so the fitters can level and fix without moving your belongings. Keep the doorway and a power point clear.
Will the wardrobe cope with Dubai summer humidity?
It will if the board is moisture resistant, every cut edge is sealed, and the unit does not block an AC grille or the return air path. Leave an access panel for concealed ductwork and keep the AC running normally in that room.
